It is an immense responsibility...in the wrong hands many things can be done. As I said before, my history is a checked past. What the Phantom Thieves did...well I suppose one could say it was more 'good' than what I did.
[He shakes his head.]
Of course...but imagine making that figure admit something that you can prove in the real world.
Toying with the subconscious could have a dangerous effect like that, I suppose.
[ The thought was a little unnerving. It wasn't like he particularly had anything to hide himself, but there were certainly things he preferred left unsaid. ]
But making them admit something... couldn't they theoretically be forced to do something, then? Or even have a memory or thought falsely implanted?
Forced admittance...well that, yes it is possible.
You'll be happy to know, however, that memories or thoughts can't really be implanted. However, it is possible to make a person's palace or memories be screwed if you trick them in the 'real world' so to speak. However, in such cases, the person's own mind would try to remind them of the truth.
It would seem like it should be, but whatever 'rules' exist are not quite exactly like one would expect them. For example, there are many demons in palaces, acting as guardians and swearing allegiance to the Palace Ruler. However, Ren was able to tame them at times and they would be reminded of who they really were. Perhaps a ruler's mind is so strong, they are able to temporarily cause pieces of the collective unconsciousness forget about themselves...or at least that's my theory.
[A pause, as he has nerded on. But honestly, he's never really gotten to share these things as, well, back home only a few people knew and it wasn't like Shido cared about that aspect unless he could use it to control others.]
The collective unconsciousness, by the way, is a theory that all of humankind also has a shared mind. If one follows that train of thought, then due to this, gods and demons exist because humanity believes in them. Not things I would have believed in before I experienced them for myself.

[ Not in the same way, but he's certainly acted out on more impulsive urges than he never would have before. ]
And they aren't aware that you're inside their mind... wouldn't that make 'proof' difficult?

[ It was a bit of a relief, though he hadn't exactly expected any of that to ever effect him. Though with the way the city was, who knew? ]
